I think this is the latest I’ve ever sent out my monthly Writual post on all things writing. I try to get it out within the first week of the month, but things have been so busy and it’s been so cold, I’ve lapsed a little. Or maybe you could call it hibernating a little…after the rush of the holidays, it’s not terrible to take a minute and regroup and set some intentions for the upcoming year.
One intention for me is to keep this newsletter going. I’m kind of shocked and proud to say it has been one year since I began this section of Silver Linings. I wanted to devote some space to writing; classes, other writers, people’s new books and maybe even one or two of my new books! It takes a long time to bring a book into the world and I, for one, can get impatient about it, but when I looked back at some of the work I’ve done, I realized I had essays in four anthologies in 2023. That made me feel a little better. I’m also coming up on the 3 year anniversary of Silver Linings, which I started to reconnect to my own writing practice. So, all in all, even though I feel like I’m not getting anything done, I’ve gotten some stuff done! And my intention is to keep working at it.
If there’s anything I can do to help you with your writing intentions, please let me know. I’m still lagging at offering my own classes, but I’ll be facilitating a few upcoming workshops—in person and online. And there are some other options below. I’m looking at a space for some of my own in-person workshops, so watch this space for that news. You’ll be the first to know!
Happy 2024 !

Brooke Warner - Writerly Things
I’m sure you’ve heard me mention Brooke Warner before. Besides being the publisher of She Writes Press, she is an amazing resource for writers with a staggering knowledge of publishing, writing, marketing, reading—well, everything writers need to know about. This post is from her Substack newsletter and it’s so chock-full of information, I haven’t even made my way through the whole thing. But it’s a good one, and if you’re setting your own writer’s intentions for 2024, take a look at this list. Bookmark it, print it out, and then subscribe to Brooke’s newsletter. It’s essential reading for whatever kind of writer you are.

WOW! Women on Writing classes
The Westport Writers’ Workshop is what I want to be when I grow up, but the truth is, they do so much more than I ever could. I haven’t taken a class with them in a few years, but when I did, I got a lot out of it. Check out their latest offerings here:

When I get my act together, I’ll post some more new books & authors to read. There are plenty coming out and I’m looking forward to sharing them with you. Hope everyone is staying warm and healthy!
See you next month! (And maybe even on time! ;)

It's more than OK to be 'late' with a post. I totally understand how you feel. This month has been such a time of re-setting, curling up, sleeping, tending, and relaxing. The weather in the UK has been cold and wet and I have hardly felt even like walking outside. There will be more days to do all the stuff we want to do... hopefully. Many good wishes for 2024, and all the happy days it will bring.
