Writual.
I will admit that everyone with whom I shared this amazing word didn’t immediately fall in love with it like I did. It’s a portmanteau of Writing and Ritual in order to link the two processes forever. At least in my mind. It is about creating and honoring intention with one’s writing, to make it important. To give it time and energy and not always just postpone it, as one does. “Oh, I’m not really a writer anyway…I should really get to that vacuuming.”
But writing is important in our lives, even if you’re not writing the Great American Novel. By jotting things down, taking time to explore our experience in words, which we can then read back to ourselves and gain some clarity—maybe—we make meaning of the occurrences in our lives. Or at least try and understand them a bit better.
The Writual section of the newsletter will be about writing stuff; writing workshops (there’s one coming up and it’s free! See below!), writing tips and encouragement, maybe some writing stuff I’m doing—like publishing my second book (did somebody just mutter “finally!” under their breath?) and things like that. One thing in particular I’m working on besides book 2 is an anthology for the voices of grief. I’ll be putting out a Call For Submissions soon—look for it by the beginning of February.
So, that’s it! Not too long, right? Just a quick little informative missive . . . nothing too heavy or detailed. Except for these details:
