Do I believe in both the amazing sustainability of hummingbirds? YES, I DO!

There once was a time in Steamboat Springs, Colorado USA that my family (of 4) and I bought a lovely home on an upper hill with a view of the main ski-slope in the far distance. Literally IN OUR PURCHASE CONTRACT - was reference to a consistent, annual return of a minimum of 25 hummingbirds, who apparently felt they owned feeding rights to the home, as well.

Our agreement in that contract we signed became = IF they came, WE would feed them.

Of course, that would be an easy agreement to make. We got a bonus also. THAT was the year of 2 consecutive - when Bison and ALL Alive on that Colorado side of our mountain of Aspens would ALSO grace our side yard because right next to it was the open wilds the Colorado Rangers FED grain and other natural nutrients to KEEP them alive that winter and all others. We had not only hummingbirds but essentially all that wanted to live through those 2 winters.

Note: Ever see a bison? They are HUGE. Fortunately, ours were too appreciative of food to get aggressive - but do not get in the way of one on their WAY to food!

It was fortunate we had also a natural, small pond further in the backmost of our yard - which capture the sunny day run-off for long enough to give the fresh sips so we were essentially running and supporting a first class pit-stop for the wilds of Colorado that chose to amble that way - then repeated such once they saw there actually was a strategy awaiting.

This home itself had a history: It came with a well-constructed, victorian-all-around porch - and was originally built by the architect of the nearby golf-course for his own family. It came on the market for the first time when his wife and kids got tired of never seeing “Dad” and headed back to Florida and their OWN interests. They knew the routine since he they’d seen it before as was previously always either ON some golf-course, some ski-slope or fly-fishing lake somewhere = while his architecture company languished.
